And the next doctor is...

Well the wait is over, after months of specualtion of black doctors, female doctors and well... David Morrisey i can now reveal to you the name of the 11th Actor to play The Doctor:

Matt Smith!!!

Here's a bit of information regarding the fairly unknown actor:

Matthew Robert Smith (born 28 October 1982) is an English actor who has performed in theatre, TV, and film. Best known perhaps for his appearances in the BBC drama The Ruby in the Smoke and The Shadow in the North alongside Billie Piper, as well as his stage performances in On the Shore of the Wide World and Cast B of Alan Bennett's History Boy.

Smith grew up in Northampton and attended Northampton School for Boys. He originally wanted to be a footballer but had to give up football after a back injury. After encouragement from his drama teacher he joined the National Youth Theatre.
He studied at University of East Anglia, reading Drama and Creative Writing.

Matt Smith is the youngest actor ever to play the doctor so he has a lot of pressure placed on him when filling the doctors shoes, every actor who has played the role to this date has absoloutly been wonderful and defined the show to what it really is today.

1. William Hartnell (1963-1966)
2. Patrick Troughton (1966-1969)
3. Jon Pertwee (1970-1974)
4. Tom Baker (1974-1981)
5. Peter Davison - pictured (1982-1984)
6. Colin Baker (1984-1986)
7. Sylvester McCoy (1987-1996)
8. Paul McGann (1996)
9. Christopher Eccleston (2005)
10. David Tennant (2005-2010)
11. Matt Smith (2010 - ?)

Piers Wenger, head of drama at BBC Wales, said that as soon as he had seen Smith's audition he "knew he was the one".

"It was abundantly clear that he had that 'Doctor-ness' about him," he said. "You are either the Doctor or you are not. It's just the beginning of the journey for Matt.
"With Steven Moffat's scripts and the expertise of the production team in Cardiff behind him, there is no one more perfect to be taking the Tardis to exciting new futures when the series returns in 2010."

Here is the extended interview with Matt Smith expressing his opinions of the importance of the role he is to partake in the year of 2010 when David Tennant is shedueled to be laeving;

Robert Carlyle interested in "Who" role

Robert Carlyle has suggested that he would be willing to take over from David Tennant in Doctor Who!
Although he denied being contacted about the role, responding to the frequent rumours surrounding him, the 47-year-old actor told the Daily Record:
"This has followed me for two years. But no-one has ever approached me about it and I never wanted to talk about it because you can't talk about another actor's part.”

Carlyle, who recently starred in 24: Redemption, also suggested that he would be willing to play The Doctor. "I would treat [the role] with respect and regard it properly, but I would have to be approached about it first," he said.
So, there we go, could we see Robert Carlyle as the 11th Doctor? Only time will tell.
